The NES LOZ Mini Review... Alrighty time for another mini review covering the game of this story Arc, Legend of Zelda for the NES.

Graphics 8/10: Well for the time, and limits of tech at the time, the graphics are very good, not a LARGE variety of colors, but they don't clash too badly, while limited the colors are mostly claiming and nothing that annoys' the senses badly.

Character pixel designs, are nice, you can MOSTLY figure out what everything is, and designs move smoothly.

Sound/Music 8/10: The sounds of Zelda are nice, clean and mostly crisp, the jingles are always fun to hear, and the music is the same classic tunes and jingles you know and love.

Story 3/10: Well the story is basic enough evil monster captures a princess, trying to obtain ULTIMATE POWAH! through getting a mystical item of power, in this case the tri-force. You are the only hope... that's about it, overall.

The major reason for the low score is due to how the story is presented which only happens if you wait at the title screen long enough, and then nothing is mentioned of it anymore in the game, so as previous comics mentioned, the story explains nothing and you're left to just mindlessly wander around till you just HAPPEN to along the correct dungeon with no guide to know where to go.

Granted it was an older game, but still for something that is story driven you suspect SOME form of assistance to help direct you.

Gameplay 8/10: Other then the poor story direction the gameplay of Zelda games have almost ALWAYS been top notch, and they have mostly always improve from game to the next, with a couple of downgrades here and there.

The basic formula move from one dungeon, find the gear, and keys, beat the boss, collect the treasure item to progress the story (for the ones that had it), while not the most inspired method, but they are always done well, and Zelda style Adventure RPG games have done well to improve this method mostly in every new game.

Simple enough one button attacks another does the alternate weapon move, with a variety of gadgets and gear to mess around, the games use these items in various ways from combat, to story progression, to finding many unique power ups and items through out the world.

Zelda games almost always have a lot to do, in a interesting world filled interesting characters, locations, and enemies, and LoZ was ahead of it's time in terms of replay value, they actually had an almost new game plus function, with the ability to play the game over on a harder setting with whole new dungeons scattered around in whole new locations, such as dungeon 1 on the regular game would now be dungeon 6, and dungeon 2 would be a shop.

A good way to keep people interested and play longer.

Overall 8/10: Play this game! If you haven't played the original yet, get an emulator and try it out, their always fun to play.

Well, I don't know about that. @qazox: While Zelda 2 was not the best of the series, it wasn't the WORST in the series,(I personally hold that title for Majora's Mask, and after that Skyward sword.), it was more overly complex, and like previously did a piss poor job of giving direction.

Battle of Olympus(Spelling) was the same style almost exactly, but it was overall the better done game for various reason. Zelda 2 just tried to many things at once and to many of them were new and were not well implemented.

I can't comment on the Best NES games in my opinion at this time, I'd have to think on it. Some I remember fondly are the late Dragonwarrior games, and Ultima 2, FF1 and Super Mario Brothers 2 (Which wasn't a super mario game but oh well it was fun anyway)

But still while Im sure most like the main stream games there were alot of little game that were extremely fun.

too bad Zelda II completely sucked ass and almost ruined the franchise.

LoZ is the 3rd or 4th best Game on the NES ever. Super Mario Bros. 3 and Metroid were better, while possibly Dragon Warrior I could be considered as good as LoZ. FFI is the 5th best, followed by Tetris.
